Fighting for ground
Moises Gonzales and Emmanuel Yancy (pictured) attempt to drive each other off of the line of scrimmage while practicing running plays. Gonzales and Yancy are players on the Lions, a Spring Branch-Memorial Sports Association freshman-level team that is a collaboration among SBMSA, Spring Branch ISD and Spring Spirit. Spring Spirit is a nonprofit organization that works to give Spring Branch kids opportunities in sports, especially through sponsorships. The team consists of 19 players, ages 6-8, from a variety of elementary schools, including Rummel Creek Elementary. None of the kids on the team have played football before, so they spend much of practice time learning the basic rules and skills.
