Congratulations to Tyler Duffey, who will make his big-league baseball debut tonight with the Minnesota Twins! Tyler graduated from Bellaire High School in 2009 and went on to play baseball at Rice University for three years before being drafted by the Minnesota Twins. He’ll pitch against the Toronto Blue Jays tonight at 6 p.m.
Actually, his dad, Tim Duffey, took a 6 a.m. flight out of Houston on Sunday to bring Tyler his passport, and they road tripped to Toronto together. (Read the details here.)
Family members and friends who have traveled to cheer him on include his brother, Travis, fiancée, Sarah Hutchins; Joe, Jonell and Will Hutchins, Becca Irey, Chris Minifee; Jason and Chrissy Shields.
Hoping to cheer him on from Houston? Check MLB.com for viewing options and watch starting at 6 p.m. tonight. There’ll be a watch party at Buffalo Wild Wings in Rice Village (but call ahead, as spots are limited) or check out other local sports bars to see if they have the MLB Network.
Way to go, Tyler – making Bellaire proud!
Tyler has been featured in The Buzz for his baseball talents several times, including when he was drafted to the Twins in 2013. See details here.
