St. Agnes Students Traveled the World this Summer
Summer is the perfect time to travel and get away from the Texas heat. That’s exactly what my family and I did over the summer. We visited four different cities in Europe. We went to London, Barcelona, Pamplona, and San Sebastian. In London, we went on the London Eye and the view was incredible. While in Barcelona, I ate lots of tapas and I shopped at stores like Long Champ and Brandy Melville. I got to see my dad run in the annual San Fermin Bull Run in Pamplona, which was one of the coolest things I have seen in my life. In addition to laying out on the beach in San Sebastian, I got to watch the gorgeous sunsets each night. It was definitely a vacation to remember.
I caught up with some other St. Agnes students who also traveled outside of Texas this summer.
Hanna Bowman, a junior, visited Alaska with her family. They went on a cruise that started in Anchorage and then sailed to Hoonah, Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan – finally ending in Vancouver. Hanna’s favorite activities were zip lining in Skagway and the whale watching in Juneau. Hanna enjoyed eating fresh seafood at each place she visited. “It was a lot of fun, but coming from a very introverted person, I felt a little cramped on the cruise ship, but overall it was fun and it's a great thing to do when going to Alaska,” said Hanna.
Rylee Tucker, a senior, went to Africa with some classmates for 16 days to complete their 100-hour service project. The servant leadership project was to paint the primary school classrooms at St Agnes’s sister school, Our Lady of Grace. They also did a couple of side projects like supplying the children with sport equipment and hosting a field day for the primary school. They took day trips to the Kakamega rainforest and Lake Victoria, where everyone was paired up with a student from the secondary school. Rylee loved the day trips because she got to see how beautiful Kenya was. “It was a great way to bond with a particular student on each trip on a smaller level. My Kakamega buddy was Pauleen. We got so close after the trip and spent a lot of time together while I was there,” said Rylee.
