A New Tradition: St. Agnes Academy and Strake Jesuit College Prepatory Pep Rally
Ever since the founding of St. Agnes Academy and Strake Jesuit College Preparatory, we’ve held many events together, but we’ve never held a pep rally together before. We kicked off the month of February with a boom. All the girls made the short walk across the parking lot into the Strake Jesuit Competition Gym for the excitement to begin. The boys of Strake Jesuit piled into the gym a rowdy manner, and sat with the girls in their corresponding grade section. Walking in the gym you were welcomed by the energetic music that almost made the gym floor vibrate beneath our feet.
With faculty and staff from both campuses at all corners of the gym, we began the rally with prayer and the National Anthem, played by the combined Strake and St. Agnes Band. Once again, the nationally recognized Tigers Girls performed their ever-so-technical military and kick dance routines. Every part of the two routines were hypnotic from the all-black military outfits to their contrasting orange sequence number for their kick routine. All sides of the gym were screaming and cheering on their most loved dancer, as they stomped hard and kicked high. Both routines demanded our ears and eyes.
It, of course, wouldn’t be a pep rally without a few competitive games. Each class competed in a game where they had to “caterpillar” as a team of four from one baseline to the other all while trying not to fall out of the contraption at the same time. And in competitive senior fashion, they won and deserve all the bragging rights because it surely looked hard.
The second game the seniors and juniors from both schools played a game of Bubble Soccer against the freshmen and sophomores. Trying to keep their balance and not run into every object in sight, the senior/junior team finally won at the end of the game. And of course, both student sections went crazy.
Last but not least, the notorious SHOCK hip-hop crew closed out our massive festivity by electrifying the crowd with their high energy and perfectly on-beat dance moves. Panning the crowd, the faces of the students were mesmerized by the innovative dance team that St. Agnes is proud to call their own. All students, faculty and staff seemed to have such a good time.
Hopefully the joint pep rally is the start of another great tradition between Strake Jesuit and St. Agnes Academy.
