Competing in Cali
Holly Kurisky, a senior at Memorial High School, along with the other members of her Houston water polo team, played in the Junior Olympics water polo tournament in northern California. Also on the team was Julia Klein, who played as goalie. The team, called Viper Pigeons North, played their way into the Platinum division of the tournament, solidifying their spot as one of the top 24 teams in the nation for the 16-and-under age group. The team was coached in part by Jason Mauss, the swim and water polo coach at Memorial High School. The team got to play at Stanford University's pool the night after the U.S. women's national team defeated Russia in the same pool. This was Holly's second year to go to Junior Olympics, and she had a great time with her teammates, exploring the San Francisco and San Jose areas in between games.
