Memorial High School graduates and twin sisters Jacqueline Smooke and Jennifer Larsen rode in a van tour hosted by non-profit Elijah Rising. During the tour, the sisters learned of the extent of sex trafficking in Houston. Elijah Rising is a Houston-based nonprofit that aims to end sex trafficking and sexual exploitation. The van tours spread awareness of brothels, typically operating as other businesses. Elijah Rising also owns Kendleton Farms, which is located on 84 acres in Kendleton, Texas, and provides for women and, eventually, their children, who have survived sex trafficking or sexual exploitation. Survivors live, heal, work and re-enter society with work history, job skills and start-up savings. Jacqueline and Jennifer were inspired and teamed up with Kerry Stovall to plan and host a gala on Nov. 10 at the Westin Memorial City. Gala proceeds will benefit Kendleton Farms. See elijahrisinggala.ticket.qtego.net/tickets/list.
