Olivia Stuyck

Memorial High school graduate Olivia Stuyck created this Astros-inspired art piece after the 2017 World Series.

It was fall of 2017 and Olivia Stuyck, then a freshman at Memorial High School, was looking for inspiration for an art project. When the Astros won the World Series, she knew what the subject for her “coffee house” project would be: her favorite baseball team. Olivia and her family have always been big Astros fans and she was excited to create the Astros-inspired art.

Her art piece was showcased in the cafeteria alongside other student artwork while the MHS choir performed. Students could sell their artwork, if they chose, and proceeds would benefit the school’s Fine Arts Department. Ultimately, Olivia decided to give the piece to her dad, David, knowing he is a huge fan. The art piece is still hanging at his office today.

On Friday, David attended Game 6 vs. the Red Sox on Friday, the game that clinched the Astros’ spot in the 2021 World Series. He said the crowd was “insane” and seeing it all happen live was an incredible experience. Mom Jenny and sister Kate cheered on the ‘Stros from home.

Olivia, now a freshman at University of Texas at Austin, plans to watch the upcoming World Series games with a group of friends (and hopes her fellow UT students are rooting for the Astros!). She is majoring in Biology and enjoys creating art as a creative outlet.

Here’s to hoping Olivia will be inspired to create a new Astros-themed piece soon. Go ‘Stros!
