Randy Bullard (pictured, in a photo taken for a 2007 Buzz article), hometown hero and former head of West University Little League (WULL) umpires, passed away at the age of 79. A staple on the baseball fields for 25 years, Randy will be missed by players, coaches, and families. The beloved umpire was always the players’ biggest fan and followed WULL All-Star teams on their journeys to district, sectionals, state, regionals, and even the Little League World Series. He loved baseball and the kids who play the game, and he was honored with his name on a Pee Wee field. When WULL started a Challenger Baseball Division in 2005 – so children with special needs could play baseball – Randy helped secure volunteers in the concession stand every weekend. He also joined the Challenger team in Washington, D.C. when then President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush invited them to play a game on the White House South Lawn. Those who knew Randy say he is now an angel in the outfield for WULL.
