For a little over a century, St. Agnes Academy has been a testimony of faith and community. With its rich history, we now celebrate the hard work and devotion of those who helped make St. Agnes Academy the school it is today. St. Agnes recently held its Founder’s Day celebration assembly, where all the faculty and students came together to honor the legacy of St. Agnes, specifically the Dominican sisters, and most notably Mother Pauline Gannon, who played a major role founding the school in 1905. We reflected on the Dominican sisters' journey from Ohio all the way to Texas.

This journey was truly pivotal as it laid the foundation for St. Agnes Academy. The assembly helped us take a look back at their start and the founding of the school at the original Fannin Street location, which opened in 1906. It wasn’t till 1963 that the school was moved to Bellaire Boulevard, its current location, to expand and help accommodate the growing number of students. From seeing the evolution of the school through something as big as the location, down to the smallest of details such as the desks from throughout the years, which were displayed on stage, as well as hearing the original bells that once called the Dominican sisters at the school to their daily prayers. These artifacts show the profound tie that the Dominican sisters have had on St. Agnes and continue to have through traditions such as saying the Dominican blessing or ending every assembly or mass with the school song.

Though it's been well over a few years since St. Agnes was founded, we still honor and look up to those who have created this tight-knit community, which connects us all through faith, from everyone at the school currently up until the very first few students, teachers, and Dominican sisters in 1906. The assembly was a great reminder of the dedication that has been poured into the school from the beginning and continues to be carried out by all those within the St. Agnes Academy community.
