Challenger season underway
Houston Challenger Football kicked off its 11th season at Strake Jesuit under blue skies with lots of fun and festivities. Pictured is Luke Junkunc, Strake class of 2018, assisting a young Challenger player. The Challenger program is a program for children with special needs or developmental and intellectual disabilities where everyone participates and everyone is a winner. National Charity League supplied spirit bags filled with goodies, and the Strake Jesuit Booster Club treated everyone to a pizza lunch afterwards. In baseball, the West University Little League Challenger Program will have a baseball classic this month. The Shriners Hospital for Children and the Astros Foundation will host the event at Minute Maid Park on Nov. 12 at 10:15 a.m. Team leaders are Debbie Hennings, Joe and Fredia Bassham, Chad and Kelly Wiginton, Brandon and Angela Alexander. Players are Nicholas Hennings, Heather Jo Thomas, Emily Wiginton, Lauren Wiginton, Dyllan Alexander, Noah Alexander, John Connell, Carter Berg, Max Gutierrez, Danny Gutierrez, Jose Escobar, Landon Woolsey, Kamden Thompson, Simon Guevara and Zachary Smith.
