Of course, The Buzz isn't all about words. Where would we have been these past 10 years without photographers shining the light on our residents? Here are some favorite shoots:
Photographer Nikky LaWell: "Okay, the chickens, hands down. I never thought I'd photograph a chicken, ever. I hate chickens, but to photograph Laverne because she looks like her owner [Bellaire resident Billie Stafford] wasn't anything I would have thought of. Billie did change my mind about chickens. Laverne was well behaved, and her farm-fresh, free-range eggs were yummy scrambled for breakfast the next day.
"Next would have to be the Bellaire FFA pigs and goats [Future Farmers of America, March 2007]. It was cold and muddy, and the pigs didn't want to cooperate. We had to chase them around into 'position' so we could see their faces. It was a funny sight.
"I also loved going to Galveston and photographing Sid [McClendon] on the Elissa and the surfing girls [Back to Galveston, April 2009]. They were so cute."
This Halloween-costume photo by Mike Hart was the result of darkroom magic.
Mike Hart: "Probably the most fun were the October photos in 2009 [Hooked on Halloween], as I got to go 'over the top' with the special effects, and was able to use personal photos from England for three of the composite images."
