The Selvaggis – 8-year-old Ryan from River Oaks Elementary,13-year-old Ross from Lanier Middle School and dad Ross – all won medals at the ROE fun run.
I woke up excited the morning of the River Oaks Elementary fun run. I wore my fun-run t-shirt and rode my bike with my family and neighbors up to the school.
I was the first one to the lineup for my race. I was ready to go when the first graders were starting. I was nervous, and I kept moving and shaking and people were pushing me out to the front. I ran, and then I heard some falls, and I quietly moved up. When running, I feel like someone is chasing me so I run faster. Last year I won first place too. It isn’t hard, and I wasn’t out of breath like my brother, Ross, was. My dad and my brother also were winners. My brother, Ross, came in second place in the sixth grade-and-up division. The person who beat my brother wore no shoes! My brother is really tall; he’s taller than my dad! Last year Ross came in first. My dad came in third place last year, and this year he came in first. I think Ross is faster than my dad. Ross was so out of breath when he finished racing he drank three water bottles in 2 minutes!
I remember Mrs. Elmer gave the three medals to my brother and dad and me. She had a big smile and was laughing when she placed the first-place medal on my dad because it was her third time to award a medal to a Selvaggi. Another winner was Louis Gustafson, in third place. He is new to ROE this year and in fourth grade and is my bike-pool mate. I keep in shape by riding my bike to school with other ROE students 2 miles every day. If I had my choice, I would run to school instead of ride my bike. Three times a week I run on the track and each time around is one-fourth of a mile. I wish we had recess every day in second grade. After the fun run, I played football and then rode my bike home.
