When I was a puppy, we had another dog named Bailey, a golden retriever who was a good friend. After Bailey passed, things were quiet. One night, everything changed. I was sleeping next to this tree in the living room and a fat fellow in a red suit dropped out of the chimney and set a box down. The next morning, the family opened the box. It was a puppy that looked like a miniature Bailey. The puppy, named Bexar, stayed out my way at first. But in just a few weeks, he was three times my size and driving me crazy. One day my master let me out the back. Out of nowhere, three big, scruffy dogs were surrounding me, growling and showing their teeth. I knew I was a goner. Just as the biggest dog lunged, a brown dog came out of nowhere. It was Bexar! Bexar rose, ears back, and growled a growl that I had never heard before. The three dogs walked away. Once home, I lay in the den, and Bexar came and lay next to me. I like Bexar now. Just like Bailey, he is a good friend.
