Freshmen are the new fish in the sea; they’re nervous and new to the entire high school system. There are new people, new teachers, new workloads—high school is very different from middle school. What they simply need is a little advice. We asked the seniors to give the incoming freshmen some words of advice:
Mary Matic: "Be calm and get your work done; don’t stress out about it. Enjoy yourself; don’t make it a big deal."
Minna Wong: "It’s not too early to start thinking about college. You don’t need a plan immediately but start thinking about what interests you. Slowly build your experience by getting involved in related or beneficial activities so they can serve as stepping stones when you do reach the time to decide what to do after high school."
Harrison Frye: "Stay confident and do your best."
Ruby Ramirez: "Be involved in as many extracurricular activities as possible to get to know everyone and be involved with the school. Also, don’t forget your book for English class because you’ll have to dance in front of the class. If I could do something different, I would take my classes more seriously."
Justin Chui: "The most important lesson to learn is to be prepared for tests and quizzes, don’t procrastinate, and don’t be frustrated over little things."
Our advice will only get you halfway there. The truth is, you will fall, and scrape your knees but what makes you more than the other freshmen is that you will know how to get back up with confidence. Now go out there and show the school what you’re made of, but remember…seniority rules. Good luck fish!
