Matthew McGuire, who attends Pin Oak Middle School, loves the action and relaxation of fishing. He caught this big fish in Florida.
My name is Matthew McGuire, and I have a passion for fishing. I like fishing because there are many methods. I enjoy every method, but one of my favorites is the sit-back method. You get to chill out and be excited at the same time. You can cast out your fishing line and relax. During the process, you hold on to your line to feel if any fish are nibbling on your bait. This is mostly used with live bait because some might not go for dead bait. The fish like their food moving, so it seems as real as possible. I enjoy the chill-out method in the Guadalupe River.
My second favorite method is the one with the most action. This requires a lure. The point is to keep the lure moving fast on the water because the fish like to chase their food. The lure is supposed to be a replica of a small fish that the bigger ones like to eat. I like doing this in the Galveston Bay. My third favorite way of fishing is the drop and stop method. This method is mainly used in the deep ocean near a reef because that is where the biggest fish are. You usually use cut-up bait for this because the bigger fish prefer their bait bloody. I enjoy doing this in deep sea.
I find all of these methods very useful and fun. I have caught many fish and even some that were too big! I caught a 48-inch redfish in a cast net. A cast net is a net that has a diameter that is huge. It is used for catching a school of mullet or a ginormous fish. I caught this beast in the intercoastals in Florida. It was swimming under my grandparents’ dock, and I cast my net and caught it. It almost pulled my brother and me off the dock. It took three adults, me and my 8-year-old brother to pull it on the dock. In the cast net, I caught the red fish and two remoras. I will always remember this amazing story.
