A second chance

Lynn Segal lived in Dallas when her husband Allen died four years ago. Her Houston boss, Ariel Leibovitz, asked her to call a friend of his who was recently widowed. That is when she met Barney Kogen, whose wife Ellen died three years ago. She eventually met him for a five-hour dinner, which led to courting by text. After two years, Ellen moved back to Houston. She and Barney married this spring when Lynn’s dad, a former longtime Houstonian, Alton Lipkin, was in town for his 100th birthday celebration. Alton was offered his own space at Barney’s, but he said that would take away his independence. He had been married to Bernice Lipkin for 67 years when she passed in 2013. Age is a state of mind.
