Celebrating Little League champs
The City of West University Place and West University Little League hosted a parade to celebrate the West U Little League Seniors world-championship win. The parade kicked off with a police escort, fire truck and local dignitaries. John Winston and Jacob Doxakis – younger brothers of players Jimmy Winston and John Doxakis – carried the championship banner. The team rode in a 24-foot truck festooned with red, white and blue, plus the banners from each tournament that they won along the way. The parade went from Rutgers to Auden on University Blvd. and concluded at Wallin Field adjacent to West University Elementary School. Pictured are (from left) Carson Maxwell, Jimmy Winston and Julian Cranfield. In front is West University Place mayor Bob Fry, who congratulated the team and read a proclamation. Lori Gobillot, who helped coordinate the parade and is the mother of Joe, who was on the team, said, “It was such a big thrill for these boys to be recognized in this way; they have such a sense of pride representing the City of West U and the League.”
