The Carlsbad caves were cold, but the heat and the brightness of the White Sands made sledding down sand dunes a fun experience. Bill Duttweiler and wife Delaina Foster, with sons Kendrick and Carson Foster, playcationed in national parks and monuments in West Texas, New Mexico and Arizona. There was a sighting of a red racer snake, javelinas and road runners on the 10-day trip.  An unforeseen bonus was that ninth grader Kendrick took over a thousand pictures, and sixth grader Carson earned nine different Junior Ranger patches and/or badges.
