Sarah Frey, a junior at Episcopal High School, worked with her brother to start a business to help veterans adopt shelter dogs.
Ever since I was a child, I wanted a dog. It wasn’t until I turned 14 that my dreams became a reality, and we adopted my first dog, Sammy, a Silky Terrier from The Woodlands. He brought us so much joy that after we welcomed Sammy into our home, we decided to adopt a rescue West Highland Terrier named Frosty. Before he became part of our family, Frosty was neglected and malnourished, and left in a backyard to fend for himself. After bringing him home, and caring for him, he is now a healthy, happy Westie who has brightened all of our lives with his lovable, licky personality. Playing with and tending to the puppies has helped take my mind off of moving to Houston this summer from Beaumont.
However, one bored summer afternoon, I realized that not everyone has access to pets, especially those who need them most. My brother Christopher and I didn’t think that this was fair, so we started a business to help veterans adopt shelter dogs so that they could both have companions. It is called Freedom Frost Outfitters, and we sell clothing online to raise money for the veterans, so that they too can have a furry friend. Our grandfather is a veteran, and we always hear his stories every summer so that’s why we chose to benefit veterans. Frosty serves as the proud symbol of our company because he shows that there is always hope for both humans and dogs to escape from bad situations.
We work closely with Pets for Vets Houston, and the proceeds go toward medicine, food and training for local companionships. When veterans adopt shelter dogs, it helps establish a mutual relationship where a lonely dog receives a happy home and a veteran gains friendship that can alleviate some pain.
My job is to design the clothing, a rewarding outlet for my artistic interests. If you would like to help our mission, please visit our website at freedomfrostoutfitters.com, where every purchase brings us a step closer to freedom for all.
