The eighth annual Fathers & Flashlights urban campout was, once again, a success and raised $90,000 for Friends of West University Place Parks Fund. Approximately 500 kids, 257 dads and 257 moms participated, and, for the second year, the Cheng and Gilder families co-chaired the event. Tents were pitched and activities began at 4 p.m. Highlights were the catch-and-release fishing, the t-shirt dye station, rock climbing, a giant slide, a photo booth, pony rides and inflatable-horse racing. DJ Tommy Blaze helped get the party started in the afternoon and had kids dancing along with Chick-fil-A cows. The Houston Astronomical Society provided telescopes and viewing assistance for campers to stargaze. Pictured are (from left, front row) Riley and Reid Gilder, Laura and Morgan Cheng, (back row) Dee Dee Gilder, and Judy, Audrey and Comfort Cheng.
