The West University Place Parks and Recreation Department invites you to share in the Christmas spirit at the 26th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. The event will be hosted outside the Community Building 6104 Auden Street, on Dec. 1, 2014.

Starting at 5:30 p.m. enjoy the evening with delicious hot drinks and sweet treats. Your kids will have the chance to get their Christmas creativity flowing at the cookie decorating station and at the craft table. After enjoying snacks and crafts, make your way over to the courtyard at the Community Building to meet one of Santa’s reindeer!

The Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will commence at 6 p.m. Gather around and watch some of the West U Recreation Center children’s programs perform and sing along with the St. Andrews Presbyterian Church choirs.  At this time the coloring contest winners will also be announced. To enter the Coloring Contest, visit the West University Recreation Center, 4210 Bellaire Blvd. to pick up your contest form.

Last but not least, join the crowd and watch the tree magically light up as the group starts the count down! However, don’t get too lost in the dazzle of our tree, because Santa loves our community and will make an appearance at the end of the night. Listen for the sound of the fire truck siren to announce Santa’s arrival. Kids will have a chance to sit on Santa’s lap and tell him their Christmas wishes. Don’t forget to bring your camera, so you can take all these memories home!

Please note that Auden Street will be closed from Amherst to Rice starting at 3:30 p.m. and will reopen at 9 p.m. Also, Milton Street will be open for parking but there will be no access to Auden. Please contact the West University Recreation Center with questions at 713-662-7420.
