We all have something for which to be grateful. I am grateful to attend a school that can cater to my needs as a student. However, there are many people in Houston who don't have as much for which to be grateful.
This year, just like every year, Briarwood had its annual can food drive. For two weeks, students brought cans to be donated to the West Houston Assistance Ministries better known as WHAM.
The drive started with a pep rally, energizing music, and a pre-recorded video interview between our student council president and the WHAM representative. We learned that WHAM relies heavily on the cans Briarwood donates to provide food throughout the Holliday season. Inspired, students headed home to collect cans, beginning a two-week long donation.
Our service didn’t stop there. After the can drive we got together and go to WHAM's storehouse to help put together Thanksgiving boxes, which include stuffing, cranberries, vegetables, and more. To accomplish this boxing task, everyone took a station. The process started by taping together the boxes, which are then filled depending on the size of the family. From there, the boxes are sent to a quality control station to ensure the boxes have the right items. Finally, packed boxes are put on a pallet to be distributed to families in need.
Here at Briarwood we are fortunate to be able to put enough food on the table everyday. That’s why we help those who can't.
