West U Parks and Recreation

With the chilly weather and the holidays in full swing, it is hard to imagine pool season. But the West U Parks and Recreation Department is already preparing for another summer season full of splashing in the pool and fun in the sun. If you have a swimmer at home who would like to make some extra cash in the summer, let them know we are hiring swim instructors and lifeguards!

Don’t wait until summer when most of the positions are already filled to start looking for a job. Get ahead of the spring and summer hiring season and start earning seniority within the Parks and Recreation team now. The West University Place Recreation Center is looking to hire swim instructors and lifeguards starting Jan. 1.

And if you are 15 or older and looking for a great summer job, after-school activity, or a challenging career in aquatics, lifeguarding puts you in an exciting position, working as part of a team to help people safely enjoy the water. The West U Recreation Center is offering lifeguard certification courses on Saturday and Sunday, March 28-29 (prerequisite March 21), April 18-19 (prerequisite April 11) and again on May 16-17 (prerequisite May 9) from 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m.

Lifeguarding will help you develop skills and experiences that will be valued by colleges and future employers. All participants must pass a pre-requisite skills swimming test prior to taking the class that will be administered a week before class starts from 3-6 p.m.

The certification price is $170 for residents and $195 for non-residents, plus a $35 online fee required by the American Red Cross. For more information about this class or the open positions, please call the Recreation Center at 713-662-7420 or visit our website.
