Last Friday night was Houston Christian’s first SPC district game of the year against one of our biggest rivals, St. Johns School. Last year, St. Johns beat us so the whole student body, this time around, was eager to see the outcome of the game.
My friends and I made signs right before the game and headed to watch the face off at St. Johns. The game began at 7:30 p.m. and you could feel the excitement in the air. Each student section was cheering their hearts out and yelling chants to keep the spirit up.
I had such a fun time with all my friends and it was one of the best basketball games I have ever been to! During the first quarter, St. Johns jumped out to an early lead. As second quarter rolled around, the Houston Christian players put in the work to get ahead by nine points.
Houston Christian kept going up from there and, in the end, the Mustangs beat the Mavericks 61 to 51! Houston Christian junior, Braden Kopp, led the team with 24 points and 14 rebounds and following right behind him was junior Justin McCormack who had 21 points.
Coaching the team to a very well-deserved victory was head coach, Ron Crandall, and assistant Teddy Wheeler. This win makes the Mustangs 1-0 in SPC Play, and the team plays a home game against St. Andrews of Austin next Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully the team will be able to keep the winning streak alive and fans are very excited to dress to the blackout theme. Come out and support this amazing team to success!
