In the wonderful land that is Texas, we hold the truth to be self evident that everything is indeed bigger in Texas. That statement cannot speak any more truth when it comes to high school football. Football season is to Texas what the World Cup is to everywhere else, but with the high school season ending, what is a Texan to do? That’s where Westbury Christian School comes in.
Basketball would usually come in second place compared to football, but that’s not true for WCS. In a legacy that boasts of 17 boys state championships and 12 girls state championships, this upcoming basketball season is highly anticipated. The boys basketball team is currently ranked number three in the state for private schools by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaching and they are ranked number three in the city of Houston with all schools being considered.
They currently hold an 18-4 record and hope to continue their success as a team. Even as individual players, they are still very successful. Galen Robinson, for example, shocked some fans as he signed a contract of commitment to play basketball for the University of Houston. His current coach, Trey Austin, was not surprised.
“[Galen] is a young man that loves Houston and takes pride in being from Houston. His father played for UH and has friends that play there. He has also known Assistant Coach Alvin Brooks for some time and is impressed with Head Coach Kevin Sampson’s collegiate and NBA level experience.”
As a unit, this team is expected to go far. Besides Robinson, other key players include Marlin Davis, Kirk Berger, Gabriel Salibi, Grant Hazel and more. The team has a wide variety of players who consistently produce good results with a spark. This season of basketball for WCS has so far been a successful one and the road to the State Championship is bright.
