Early Admission for Bellaire Students
While many high school seniors’ major stress stems from the anxiety of college acceptance, a number of Bellaire High School seniors experience a rather relaxing point in their senior year. A handful of students at BHS applied early action to universities nationwide and have received their well-deserved acceptance letters.
Senior Jackie Wertheimer just received her acceptance letter to her dream school, the University of Southern California. She describes the moment vividly: “When I got home from school my dad told me there was a package from USC for me. I started freaking out, but not a lot once I reminded myself that it was still early in the year so it was likely just a package of general information. However, when I realized it was labeled priority mail, I became even more hopeful. As my dad and I opened the package, the first words we saw were ‘Welcome to the Trojan Family,’ accompanied by a certificate of acceptance. So of course I began screaming and then crying hysterically for nearly half an hour. It was unbelievable.”
Similarly, Senior Claire Weddle was recently accepted to Rice University. She confirmed that her rigorous work ethic has paid off. When asked about her getting into Rice, Weddle says, “I have wanted to go to Rice since I was a little girl. Now I know that dreams do come true if you put your mind to it.”
Claire discussed the difficulties of juggling extracurriculars, school activities, academics, and sports without becoming too overwhelmed. She confessed that many nights she received little sleep to avoid falling behind in school. However, her commitment to her education and extracurriculars earned her a well-deserved acceptance letter to the prestigious college of her dreams.
Another senior, Zean Liao, was admitted early action to Duke University in the fall. He says, “I have always wanted to attend Duke University, so it was honestly a dream come true for me when I was admitted. When you work so hard for something that you want so badly, it’s just such an amazing, indescribable feeling to actually achieve what you envisioned from the beginning.”
These three seniors, as well as the many other students that have been admitted and have committed to universities nationwide, reveal excitement and relief regarding their admission to college. After a long journey through high school, and seemingly longer journey through the application process, it’s finally time for many seniors to relax and enjoy the bittersweet ending that senior year brings.
