It’s a lunch to celebrate the River Oaks Friendship Club’s 75th Anniversary, April 20 at the Junior League of Houston. Historian and photographer Story Sloane will share memories of old Houston, with vintage photos. ROFC president Kathryn Mikes, luncheon chair Roberta Prasak and committee VIPS Martha Rhea, Sara Owen-Gemoets and Nelda West encourage members to dress up in any kind of diamond bling (real or not) to honor past presidents. A costume-jewelry silent auction and a wedding display of Jane Hoffert Moore’s gown from the WWII era will add sparkle. The event benefits nursing scholarships for Texas Woman’s University. For $50 tickets, contact [email protected]. ROFC got its start in 1940 with women from First Methodist Church who furnished a hospital room annually at the then-new Methodist Hospital. The club’s dedication and altruism has continued to be a lasting legacy.
