Fencing on the national stage
Bellaire eighth grader Tarleton Hunt (pictured) is a foilist on the national fencing team at Salle Mauro Fencing Academy. She has been fencing for less than two years, but Tarleton recently competed in the National North American Cup Division III tournament in Reno, Nevada. Fencing against a large field of older and more experienced fencers, she finished third, earning a bronze medal and a national ranking of C15. Tarleton also competed in the Daugherty Youth Cup Tournament in St. Louis, earning another bronze medal. She is currently ranked in the top 50 nationally in the 14-year-old youth foil category, and she will compete in the USA Fencing National Championships in San Jose, Calif., this summer.
