Memorial 4th of July Festivities
On this bright July morning, proud members of the Memorial Villages took to the streets of Piney Point Road and Gaylord and passionately celebrated what can only be described as fanfare of the red, white and blue.
Excited families patiently waited on the neighborhood streets for the themed floats while a parade of cars tagged along.
Each vehicle sent Skittles and lollipops flying into the air and into the hands of joyous children and their parents.
Toward the end of the parade, after all the cars had left the scene, one man on his bike adorned with an American flag peddled down the remaining street chanting “USA!". According to the man and the residents listening nearby, the solo parade member “had overslept,” and unfortunately missed the bulk of the event.
The colors of the flag danced up and down Piney Point, eventually making its way down to the festivities at Memorial Drive Baptist Church, where families bonded over a shared love of snow cones, hot dogs, and American Independence.
On each corner of the festival sat a snow cone station or a community information booth. Some Texas favorites included country music, a mechanical bull, and horse riding. Parents and children alike celebrated in infectious pride and spirit.
