The Houston Christian student section cheers on their team in Space Jam themed attire in an 89-72 win over Christian Homeschool Sports Ministries.
When I walked to the student section 30 minutes before the game, I thought it was going to be a small turnout for our first game. Fast-forward to game time and the entire student section was filled. Houston Christian came out dunking in warm-ups and got the entire student section on their feet.
Tre Buggs, senior basketball player, threw down a hard one-handed dunk and we all went crazy. The game started off slow with us struggling through the first few minutes. HC then caught back up and was winning 41-40 over Christian Homeschool Sports Ministries at halftime. After halftime, Houston Christian came out ready to win.
Sophomore Miller Kopp shined in the second half, getting rebounds and scoring like crazy. The student section was going crazy. Houston Christian went on to win 89-72. Miller Kopp put up 27 points and 15 rebounds in his debut game at HC. Justin McCormack, senior, put up 22 points. Sahvir Wheeler, freshman, added to the stats with 11 points and 8 assists in his first high school game for HC.
After the game the student section cheered for our team and sent CHSM on their way home.
Houston Christian then beat Westbury Christian in a tight game, 85-76, on Friday, Nov. 13. Justin McCormack had 28 points, Shariff Wilson had 14 points, 6 of those being two clutch threes to secure the win, and Sahvir Wheeler put up 13 points and 12 assists.
Houston Christian faces off against Northland Christian at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in their first away game of the season.
