At Alexander-Smith Academy, students roam the halls, have lunch and hang out with each other. To the common observer, ASA may look just like any other school, but the people who go to the school know that we have many talented individuals in the mix.
One of these gifted people is Katy Boyd, a senior who is also the lead singer in her band, We Disturb the Peace. Katy’s band plays a wide variety of songs, ranging from classics such as Nirvana’s “Smells like Teen Spirit” to more recent songs such as “Face Down” by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. The band usually meets once or twice a week to practice and discuss the covers of each song. However, it takes more than just a few days of practice, and Katy knows this.
“[I] spend a good twelve to fourteen hours a week with my vocal coach and more by myself practicing,” Katy explains.
Musicians all credit their start into the business to a band or bands that inspired them to pursue their musical talents.
Katy says, “I don’t really have a favorite band; it’s hard to choose just one, but I have gotten a lot of my inspiration from bands like Bring Me the Horizon and Of Mice and Men.” And this influence shows with her music selection for her band.
