Garey Marks, Andrew Marks and Olivia Marks

Condit Elementary School kindergartener Olivia Marks (pictured, with her dad Andrew Marks and grandfather Garey Marks) is playing soccer this season at Feld Park, which holds a piece of her family’s history. Olivia’s great-great grandfather, Mose Feld, donated the park to the City of Bellaire in 1951 as a playground tract for the community. Olivia’s parents, Andrew and Nataly Marks, younger brother Connor, and grandparents, Garey and Kathy Marks, will cheer on Olivia this season. Mose was born in 1900; six months after his birth, The Great Storm hit the Galveston area (where he lived at the time). Mose lost his father, Benjamin, nine years later and Mose helped support his mother and three sisters. He quit school to sell newspapers and to eventually work at a Houston bank. The president of the bank took a liking to him and helped advance his career. The rest is history as he rose to become a prominent member of the Bellaire community.
