The Salvation Army Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Houston celebrated its 10th annual Youth of the Year Scholarship Awards Banquet at the River Oaks Country Club. Event committee chair Judi McGee and event co-chairs Joella Mach and Debby Leighton (pictured, from left) mingled as $125,000 was awarded to 20 youth. The overall winner and recipient of the $25,000 scholarship was Leslie Ortiz, who will now be competing in the State Youth of the Year Competition. Former scholarship recipients Billy Ayoola and Omri Melton served as honorary co-chairs. A total of $196,421 was raised at the event, with 264 people in attendance. Proceeds fund the Youth of the Year program and provide financial assistance for summer camp.
