At the end of March, there was a policy conference occurring in Washington D.C. called AIPAC. AIPAC is a bipartisan convention where representatives of the Republican and Democratic parties come together and talk about Israel’s relations with the U.S. and other countries.
Issues that were discussed included: Iran Nuclear Deal, US protecting Israel’s national security, and the discussion of the new president. There were many speakers present at this conference, such as: Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, John Kasich and Hillary Clinton. This was quite the convention to remember and will be one for Israelis and Americans to cherish.
Though this conference featured different views on the varying issues, presidential candidates and many different speakers unite; no matter what their political views entail, because of the bipartisan agreement on which AIPAC was built on. Even though the US is divided in terms of political views, this conference is to show that the Israelis and Americans are on one cohesive premise; Security. AIPAC has a way of bringing people together through mutual interest like helping our allies prosper.
This year at AIPAC, the largest attendance ever was present at over 18,000 people of all different religions, beliefs and political views. There were over 5,000 students in attendance, which was also another record broken.
Junior Joe Schwartzberg said, “This event really changed my perspective about Israeli matters and enlightened me on how important Israel is to the United States.”
For me personally, I developed a greater appreciation for the state of Israel.
