Dedicated to
Babe's Beach

Galveston has created a new beach, a 15-block stretch west of 61st Street, and named it Babe's Beach. The city recently dedicated it to A.R. "Babe" Schwartz to honor his many years as a Texas senator and champion for the Texas Gulf coast. It is the first time a beach has been in that spot since Hurricane Carla in 1961. Schwartz, 89, was surrounded by family and friends on the new beach as he accepted the honor. Pictured are Babe’s family, including members of the Schwartz family, Milstein family and Frankfort family.
