One of the best parts of Episcopal High School is its athletics. EHS students take pride in the fact that our sports teams are so talented. Students attend many games from field hockey to football. We are very dedicated to cheering on our teams.
The student section at football games is where one can see how truly dedicated EHS students are to supporting our teams. Our student section at football games is well known throughout Houston. Whether it’s a home or away game, we are there. The student section sometimes travels with team, going with them to SPC.
While we have many traditions, the student section is by far one of the most popular. Each game has a different theme and everyone goes all out. Students really get creative when it comes to the themes. Although the themes are a large part of the student section, it is not the only fun part. We cheer so loud that the next day our voices are gone. We chant the names of players who have scored, and we let the other team know who is going to win. The Gong Squad, made up of seniors, helps to hype up the students and get everyone pumped.
This past Friday, Sept. 23, the theme was patriotic and everyone came decked out in red, white, and blue. Students wore Texas and American flags, body paint, and glitter. Beads were around everyone’s neck and many were waving cowbells and American flags. Next Friday is our rival game against Kinkaid, and the theme is camo, as it always is because we “hunt the falcons.” Students come covered in camo along with orange hunting vests and duck whistles. The student section is an extremely important part of athletics and student life at EHS.
