Olympic Fever: Bellaire Resident Volunteered in Rio
Sam Li and his fiancé Ab Hart spent several weeks in Rio this August. Sam, an internal medicine doctor and 2003 Bellaire High School grad, volunteered as a medical doctor for the 2016 Olympics. He spent his time there volunteering for the fencing and Taekwondo events.
During their time in Rio, Sam and Ab were also able to attend several Olympic events as spectators and loved witnessing Team USA take home some gold medals.
They also enjoyed some tourist attractions, such as hiking up Dois Irmaos, the iconic mountain overlooking Rio, and spending time on Ipanema Beach. Some highlights for them included watching the soccer match between Brazil and Germany, witnessing Team USA Women’s Gymnastics team receiving their gold medals, seeing Usain Bolt winning his 9th gold medal, and cheering on Team USA track and field women while they took their relay victory lap.
