Recently, Awty held an event called Volleypalooza, where the Girls Volleyball teams played the teams of a rival school in a double header. During Volleypalooza a collection of food trucks made sure that everybody was fed and ready to watch some spectacular volleyball.
First up, the Awty Girls JV team played a very exciting three-set game against Duchesne’s JV team, but sadly the Awty team was defeated. Early on, the game was back and forth between Awty and Duchesne, but unfortunately Duchesne was able to capitalize on a few errors made by the Awty team. Since Awty lost in the first game, it added all the more pressure on Awty’s Varsity team to win their game.
In between the two games there was a small ceremony commemorating the seniors on the Girls Varsity Volleyball team, the Cross-country team, and a performance by the choir. Next up the Awty Girls Varsity played against Duchesne’s Varsity team and the game was incredibly intense. Two and a half hours and five sets later, the Awty team was victorious! It was the longest game the Awty players had played all season! Some players called the game the most fun of their Awty careers. During the game, the crowd was absolutely electric.
Sophomore Varsity player Sandra Georges described the crowd as, “the most spirited crowd I had ever played for.” Even though there were only 100 or so people in the stands, it felt extremely lively. The event was certainly a great way to kick off all Awty sports in general.
