Celebrate good times
Hurricane Matthew didn’t stop this group of friends from a long weekend away to celebrate Lori Cohen’s 55th birthday. With less than a day’s notice, they traded plans including air travel, a trendy hotel and hot spots in South Beach, Fla., for a quick car ride from Houston. One dedicated friend, Stephanie Pelmoter, flew from Washington, D.C.. The group headed to Galveston, where they hunkered down at the San Luis Hotel, played hours of mahjong games (which they’ve done together for 25 years), dined out, and laughed to no end, creating new memories while reminiscing about the past. Pictured are (back row, from left) Cindy Greenberg, Pelmoter, Elisha Selzer, (front row, from left) Julie Stein, Mindy Levinson, Cohen, Vicki Bursten and Shari Spier. They basked in sunshine by the hotel pool, wearing their monogrammed, floppy visors and tank tops bearing individual nicknames connecting each woman to Lori, gifts presented to the group by Shari Spier, “the bff” (see shirt).
