I am proud to say that I go to a school where Halloween is taken seriously. At Awty the Halloween festivities were divided into separate occasions: the Fall Fun Festival and Halloween itself.
The Fall Fun Festival took place this year on the breezy afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 22. The event was essentially a Halloween-themed carnival. The activities available were inflatable fun houses, laser-tag, a virtual reality room, rock climbing, bungee jumping and a haunted house where high school volunteers chased and scared anyone who dared to come inside.

On the actual Halloween day, the Awty tradition allowed all preschoolers and all seniors to wear Halloween costumes to school. Many of the teachers dressed up as well. The preschoolers started off Halloween for the rest of the school with a Halloween parade, where they walked around the school and proudly displayed their costumes, smany of which were adorable princesses and superheroes.
The senior costumes this year were great. Wednesday Addams, Lil Yachty, Borat, Einstein, all the Disney princesses and Jamie Lee Curtis in an Activia commercial are just a few of the costumes that come to mind. Since I joined Awty in the sixth grade, I have desperately waited to dress up as a senior.

Finally this year I brought honor to my family name by dressing up as my doppelganger, Tina Belcher, joined by my mom Linda Belcher (Beatriz Gras) from the TV show Bob’s Burgers. It was bizarre but enjoyable to watch people go about the school day normally but in full costume. I was especially struck by a teacher dressed up as the Dalai Lama, who roamed around campus barefoot in a robe and llama mask while passing out riddles.
I am proud to have been a part of Awty's Halloween this year!
