Fall has officially hit Houston and the temperatures are dropping as we near the end of the year! Around Westbury Christian, one familiar squad is still going strong into the cold month of November for the first time in four years. I am talking, of course, about the Varsity Wildcat Football Team, who is gearing up for their first playoff appearance since the 2012 season.
While Basketball has been the powerhouse of success at this Southwest Houston school; the football boys have been working hard to build their own tradition. For every player on the roster, this will be their first time in the postseason wearing the blue and gold, and the school couldn’t be more excited! Though they started off with a flat 1-5 record to begin the season, the Wildcats lit up their district, clinching a playoff berth with a 2-0 start and some statement victories to open district play.
These two impressive wins were the first district wins in the Krimm Era (Head Football Coach Mark Krimm began in the fall 2014 football season) at Westbury Christian, as well as the first in four years. The ‘Cats scored over 75 points and won by multi-digit scores in both games. They will be taking on the Knights of The Regents School in Austin on Friday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m.
The Knights are an impressive 10-0 in the regular season and have faced two familiar district foes (Fort Bend Christian and Second Baptist) prior to this postseason matchup. A WCS victory on Friday would be a historic mark for the ‘Cats. While this is the third playoff appearance in school history, the Wildcats have yet to make it past the first round. Westbury Christian will be driving up to Austin in search of an upset to keep their historic season alive.
If you're in the Austin area or want to make the trip, make sure to come out at 7 p.m. to support your Wildcats!
