Tina Taghi is a junior at Episcopal who is participating in a campaign with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, an organization that helps raise money for research for Leukemia, Myeloma and Lymphoma. Tina was nominated by her cousin Hasti Taghi, who had won Woman of the Year in this campaign two years prior.
The campaign is a seven-week fundraising competition for high school students in the Houston area. Students may compete as an individual or as a team or two or more students, which is what Tina has chosen to do. Candidates raise money in honor of a patient who is currently battling or in a remission of a blood cancer. At the end of the campaign, there is a Grand Finale Gala to celebrate everyone’s successes and announce the Student(s) of the Year and Mission Awareness Winner(s).
For Tina, this campaign will teach her to be independent and confident in her cause and how she will go about raising money. Tina is doing everything by herself from emailing donors and going out of her comfort zone to talk with potential donors. This campaign is a job. Tina must strategize and think of good and original ideas to raise money and bring awareness to this cause. In her own words, Tina is “glad to be doing this because she is stepping out of her comfort zone for a cause she believes in, and she gets this fantastic opportunity to be a leader.”
It is easy to help Tina raise money for this cause. All you have to do is click this link and donate any amount you want. No matter how big or small the amount, every dollar is taking us one step closer to finding a cure for these blood cancers.
