Let the good times roll

Jan Shoss’ kids all had “really good excuses” why they weren’t available to be home during the weekend of her 60th birthday, she said. Jeffrey was taking his oral medical boards, Jessica was planning to be in Houston for a triathlon the week after Jan’s birthday, and Bradley had just opened an office in Orlando. So Jan decided to plan a happy hour to celebrate her birthday with friends at her home. She had no idea that her husband, Stan, had been plotting with her kids for months. Two weeks before her birthday, she went on a weekend getaway trip to Las Vegas with Stan and was surprised to see her son Jeffrey with fiancée Hannah, Bradley and wife Mindy, and daughter Jessica. The family enjoyed a weekend of celebrations together. When Jan came back to Houston, she also enjoyed her sushi happy hour – themed “let the good times roll,” which included a sushi chef plus cupcakes decorated with sushi and mah jongg tiles. Jan loved “rolling” into her milestone birthday with friends in Houston and family on vacation. Pictured are Jan and Stan at her sushi mah jongg party.
