Awty’s Senior Visual Art Exhibition
Each year on Awty’s Fine Arts Day, the International Baccalaureate (IB) Visual Art Exhibition takes place. The exhibition is where seniors taking IB Art finally exhibit the art masterpieces they created throughout their junior and senior year.
This year, the art exhibition presented the works of 15 talented seniors, each with their own theme to tie their works together. Each theme held a strong personal connection with its artist, a connection evidenced in each art piece. Talented senior Beatriz Gras’ theme focused on the inner self.
“I wanted to portray its broad spectrum by including the positive aspects such as happy emotions and creativity as well as the negative aspects such as inner struggles, isolation, and depression,” stated Gras.
Other themes in the exhibition included trauma, addiction, new beginnings, journeys, the symbolism of wealth and the symbolism through flowers.
“All of the hard work we have put into our art for two years was truly evident once all of our pieces were placed together for all to see,” added Gras. “Although there were some moments during my IB art experience where I felt somewhat overwhelmed, I am very proud of my work and am glad that I persevered through the small battles along the way. Art has been a way for me to find moments in my day where I can escape from my other stressful courses and focus on exploring what I am truly passionate about.”
