Westbury Christian School senior Will Symonds, who has taken on the role of School Buzz Editor at WCS this year, received several of the highest honors awarded to seniors annually. He also received a special scholarship specifically because of his work on our School Buzz blog

Will received a $100 scholarship from Carolyn Tarver, mother of former WCS student Stan Engelke, who died in a tragic car accident in 1983. For many years, she has been awarding a scholarship in Stan's memory to one WCS senior who has shown interest in journalism, which was one of Stan's passions. Will received this award based on his School Buzz contributions

He was also selected by the high school faculty for the Mr. WCS award, for distinguishing himself through his positive attitude, spirit of service and willingness to rise to his teacher's high expectations. Will, who participated in football, soccer, baseball and track and field, was selected by the coaching staff for the Mr. Wildcat award, which is awarded to a multi-sport student-athlete who also excels in the classroom and exemplifies an outstanding attitude.

Next year, Will is heading to Trinity and will study Business Administration. He hopes to write or help with the broadcasting of athletic events in college. He said that journalism and communication in general is “essential for all career paths” and will be helpful as he pursues his business degree.
