A walk in the park
It was a big day for the fight to end bladder cancer. Around 150 supporters, including event chair Maja Latham, Tracy Herrin, Pam Harris, Jim Harris, Andy Varner, Vivian Varner, Courtney Varner and Ava Grace Varner lined up at Terry Hershey Park for the AmpUp Houston Walk to End Bladder Cancer. Balloons welcomed everyone to keep the spirits lifted. The event was sponsored by BCAN, the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network. A total of $67,000 was raised. Participants who spoke were Dr. Seth Lerner from Baylor College of Medicine and Dr. Arlene Siefke from M.D. Anderson. The Lester and Sue Smith Foundation were the national sponsor of this inaugural walk, and local sponsors included Baylor College of Medicine, MD Anderson and the Herrin and Harris families. See bcan.org for more information about the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network.
