It’s summertime in Houston, and there’s plenty to keep you busy this weekend. Here are a few events to consider:
Cool Nights at the Houston Zoo
Every Friday evening at the Houston Zoo is an adventure this summer. From 5-8 p.m., the zoo stays open and offers a bunch of cool and exciting activities. This Friday, the Kathrine McGovern Water Play Park will stay open after hours and there will be a screening of the classic movie The Sandlot.
Sandcastle Day at Stewart Beach
Do you enjoy building or admiring sandcastles? If so, come out to Galveston’s Stewart Beach and learn from the professionals! All day long, pro sandcastle builders will be on the beach, teaching and building. The event starts at 8 a.m. and instructors will build sandcastles in the morning and give lessons in the afternoon. The event is free to the public.
Christmas in July 5k
This holiday-themed 5k race downtown benefits the Salvation Army. The unique 5K starts at 7 a.m. on Saturday.
Screen on the Green
The movie Trolls will be screened on the Anheuser-Busch stage at Discovery Green for free on Saturday evening. Bring your kids out for this free, family-friendly movie.
Symphonic Sights and Sounds at Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
The Symphonic Sights and Sounds will be a show complete with music and breathtaking visual effects. Francesco Lecce-Chon, the conductor of the symphony, will not only conduct the masterful classical music, but explain what the audience should listen for and give some musical and historical lessons as well. Head out to the Woodlands this Saturday for a great show.
Saint Arnold's Downtown Pub Crawl
This downtown Houston pub crawl for 21+, sponsored by Saint Arnold’s, starts Saturday afternoon and hits a bunch of Houston bars along the way. After, there is a concert at Market Square Park by Ishi and The Waxaholics.
