Through the woods
Teen competitors, including (pictured, from left) Jared Clark (an incoming junior at Bellaire High School), DeWight Winchester (of Bryson City, N.C.) and Philip Davis (an incoming junior at Reynolds Hockey Academy), stood on the podium after battling heavy rain, muddy conditions and other obstacles in the USA Triathlon Off-Road National Championships. The race took place at DeGray Lake and Iron Mountain. The course covered a 1,500-meter swim, 32-kilometer mountain bike and 10-kilometer trail run. Clark placed second and Davis placed third. Both local teens qualified for world championships in July. In July, Jared finished first and Philip placed in second in the Texas High School Triathlon State Championship.
