The Special CHEERS (Children with Horses for Evaluation, Education, Rehabilitation, and Socialization) gala is coming up on Sept. 30, 6-9 p.m., at Daisy Dukes (5002 Washington Ave.). Pictured are co-chair Lynn Kelly and her husband Ty. Supporters will kick up their boots at the western-themed fundraiser with barbecue, adult beverages, dancing, auctions and music by the Shayne Still & Southern Blend Band. SC operates on 240 acres of land in northwest Houston and offers occupational-therapy services for children and adults with special needs, with a focus on equine therapy. Kelly’s son Bill, age 21, is on the autism spectrum and has ridden horses for years at SC. The other two co-chairs are Barbara Blades-Line and Loraine Lyons. Individual tickets start at $125.
