Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have been affected by the flooding and storms this week. More rain is in the forecast. Please continue to stay safe and be careful. We have gathered a list of resources below. Please comment to add any resources, helpful information or updates about donations, drives or opportunities for neighbors to help neighbors.
Resources and Important Information
- Coast Guard: In addition to calling 911, those in need of assistance can call the U.S. Coast Guard Houston Command Center at 281-464-4851 or any of the following Coast Guard numbers: 281-464-4851; 281-464-4852; 281-464-4853; 281-464-4854; 281-464-4855
- Find a shelter: Shelters have been set up around the city. Find an open shelter through Red Cross Houston.
- City of Houston Emergency Operations Center
- Safety reminders from FEMA
- Report Flooding through Houston 311. Let your insurance company know, in writing, that you have a claim, as soon as possible. Here's information about why to file before Friday, Sept. 1, if possible.
- Harris County Flood Control District
- Power Outages tracker
- Towed cars
- Schools: Both Houston ISD and Spring Branch ISD announced that schools will be closed until Tues., Sept. 5 (after Labor Day).
- Be sure you’re signed up for notifications from your neighborhood: Bellaire, West U, Memorial Villages, City of Houston
- If you're flooded, here's good information on next steps. You should be sure to file an insurance claim as soon as possible.
How to Help Others
Here are some opportunities to help. If you're able to safely get to George R. Brown Convention Center to volunteer within the shelter, they are seeking volunteers.
